Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. And the new machine is on the same domain and same network. On the old system I had two passwords. The login password, and the database password. When I transferred everything to the new machine it only asks me for the database login and not the login password.. So I need to find a “. If so, where do I need to place it on the new machine?
Is it as simple as just copying that single file over to the new machine? If I’m right, you need to find the. If you want to explicitly join the workgroup instead of using a shortcut, then to start the workgroup administrator in Access , you have to run a line of VBA code.
Once in the workgoup adminstrator, you can navigate to the workgroup file and choose to join it. If you do that, then evey time you start Access, for any purpose, you will need to enter the username and password.
So if you use Access for multiple databases, and only one is secured with the workgroup, it’s better to stay joined to the default unsecured workgroup and use a shortcut to start the secured database. Workgroup security is not used for the new. So, let me make sure I understand. You found a workgroup file on the old machine, copied it to the new machine, set up a shortcut on the new machine that opens your database and specifies the workgroup file that you copied over, but it doesn’t accept the password that you remember.
Is that right? If so, I’m not sure that you copied the correct workgroup file. Copying the workgroup file will not change the usernames and passwords stored in it.
So it ought to accept your entry, if you specified the same username and password as worked on the old computer. Are you sure you used the same username? Once you’ve entered a username, Access remembers it and presents it next time the authentication dialog comes up — letting you just enter the password — so sometimes you forget the username.
If you’re sure you are entering the same username and password, but it’s not accepting them, I’ll bet either you either copied the wrong workgroup file, or your shortcut isn’t pointing to that one. When the Workgroup Administrator opens, it will display the path to the workgroup you are currently joined to. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Jason Pruitt. I have downloaded Office and installed Access I successfully opened a tiny database that I use just to join the workgroup file. I then closed Access and tried to open the same file and now I get the Error ‘Cannot open a database with a previous version of your application.

I just wanted to thank you for all of your help with this issue, your answers resolved my problems.
