I got a new laptop 2 day ago running windows It connected to my home wifi perfectly; I just clicked the network, typed in the security key, and it connected. However, at my school, there are 2 secured networks which I need to be able to connect to. When I try to connect to them, the computer never prompts me for a password, and just says it failed to connect.

I can click on any of the other random secured networks within range and they ask me for a password as you’d normally expect. Why are the 2 networks I need to use not asking me for the password and therefore not connecting? Btw, I easily was able to connect to these same 2 networks on my old laptop by entering in the password.

Right now I am forced to use my schools open network, but it doesn’t work well and drops my connection all the time. If Windows is not prompting for credentials for your wireless networks it means the network profile has been stored by the WLAN auto configuration service.

You can delete the stored profile if you wish by following the below steps:. Start a Command Prompt as an Administrator Right click on Windows button and select Command Prompt Admin and execute the following commands: netsh wlan show profile.

Once you have done this, if you wish for windows to ask for the password everytime on your device then uncheck the “Connect Automatically” option when connecting through the network.
